Clean Air Compost was started as a joint venture by Clean Air Lawn Care and National Recycling in Fort Collins, CO. In April 2009, they created Clean Air Recycling & Waste Services, the official name of Clean Air Compost, and were awarded a grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
The Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity (RREO) grant application was titled, "Northern Colorado Organic Waste Recycling Program" and was awarded via stimulus money.
Clean Air Lawn Care is a sustainable lawn care service that uses electric equipment powered through renewable energy, recycles/composts all yard waste and also offers an organic lawn treatment program for quiet, clean and safe lawn care. The company began in Fort Collins in 2006 and is now a national franchise with over 27 locations throughout the country.
Through the use of electric equipment powered by renewable energy, Clean Air Lawn Care removed 32,000 pounds of air pollution equaling over 1,000,000 vehicle miles in 2008. The positive impact of Clean Air Lawn Care's business is parallel with growth. The company's growth equals a larger reduction in national air pollution. Clean Air Lawn Care is starting a revolution in lawn care and changing the way America mows the lawn.
National Recycling started as Colorado Office Recyclers in 1995 to create business recycling options in Northern Colorado. After initial success recycling paper, aluminum, cardboard, glass and plastics for small business, they expanded their services by purchasing Security Document Destruction from Colorado Iron and Metal in 1998. In 2003, Colorado Office Recyclers and Security Document Destruction became National Recycling.
National Recycling now handles numerous accounts in Northern Colorado/Southern Wyoming. Our clients include such companies as Anheuser Busch, Wal-Mart, RH Donnelley and Colorado State University, as well as numerous small businesses throughout the area. They also offer a convenient public drop-off facility.
Start a new initiative! Feel great about the steps you are taking to sustainability!

Carey Smith, Co-Founder of Clean Air Compost
As the Founder and President of National Recycling, Inc., which has been the leader in large-scale recycling services in Northern Colorado since 1996, Carey realized that commercial compost service is the final, necessary component that completes a successful landfill-diversion program. "Many businesses have no idea that much of what goes in their trash can is easily-composted organic material that shouldn't be in the trash can at all," says Carey.
